“Stay with that feeling.
Without trying to push it away.”

Exactly same my therapist told me the other day. :)

Staying with the body sensations certainly helps. 🙏🏻

I think focusing on our body also provides a certain relieve to our busy minds that are tired in search for understanding.

I’m wondering whether once you dropped the intentional sense-making, did the meaning of your feelings eventually emerge?

Yes, staying with the feeling and staying with the sensations is a very similar thing. In the end, events leave emotional signatures on our bodies.

And, yes. The meaning often does emerge. When we least expect it. Not in the form of "thought through knowledge", but in the much more purified form of insight.

In the end, the best shots take the archer by surprise ;)

Thanks for sharing this. Helps to validate my direction.

And, as easy as this might sound, we often apply an immense resistance to stay in emptiness when our mind is caught up in thoughts.

Today, this happened to me: https://substack.com/profile/6147133-livio-marcheschi/note/c-15993058

Such an important, necessary reminder.

That's one of the core reasons why I write. Since I tend to forget.

"I must keep reminding myself of this", "I must keep reminding myself of this", "I must keep reminding myself of this" ;)

"We can attend to the mind by attending to the body" — can't agree more!

I'm also curious about your experience with somatic coaching, what aspect of it has been most effective for you?

Well, I’ve been doing somatic work as client for 5+ years. Really changed my life, taking me out of ruminant thinking, connecting with emotions and opening my heart to live fully.

There are many techniques, some more discharge oriented (the trauma release type of approach), some more process focused (enablement, flourishing, unfolding).

Wanna have a chat about it? Might be easier to talk about it, if you’re interested.

I’m also planning to write about it, but not sure how much readers would be interested. I’ve indeed just finished my training as somatic practitioner, and writing my dissertation about simple techniques to connect with the body.

Hi sorry about the late reply! I've been exploring different styles of therapy and would love to learn more about somatic work. I'll book a slot from the Calendly link!

I loved this! Thank you for the practical exercise in surrendering to the body and being with it during uncomfortable emotions. I'm definitely going to try it this week 😊

Great. Happy to see how that goes. I am also thinking to put together a little series (or article) on somatic exercises that can be done in autonomy, to increase body awareness and let go of the mind.
