I have been chasing targets my whole life.
First was University.
Then working in tech.
Secondly entering product management.
Then becoming a director.
Be awarded as the best student.
Becoming the best employee.
Always rushing.
Always pushing.
To then get there.
And realise it wasn’t it.
That nothing had changed.
That some things around me transformed.
But I was still the same.
Who am I?
I am the one looking at my path.
And realising the reply is not outside.
I could not have gotten there in any other way.
I needed to make my own mistakes.
I needed to walk my path.
And different perspectives were not always welcome.
Why am I saying this now?
Because everyone has to reach their own conclusions.
And the best we can do is to help them get there as quickly as possible.
“There is no way of telling anyone that that’s an illusion and getting appropriate action, because we are thoroughly indoctrinated with the idea that it’s real.” (Alan Watts)
Do not try to change their mind.
Do not get them to avoid your mistakes.
Do the opposite, instead.
Encourage them to keep going.
Give them the tools they require.
And be there when they are going to need you.
So that they can recognise how arriving truly feels like.
And reach their own conclusions.
I wish you can get to your targets as quickly as possible.
And realise your own version of the story.
As you engage in your path of self-realisation.
With joy,

And do we need to rush? ;)
How about walking instead of running, accepting we might be still on the wrong path, but enjoying the journey.
And it gets easier if there is someone just holding our hand through the tough turns.
That's generally the path of a western mind . Well now , with globalization, most humans. Throw in some internal authoritarian truth bending, cultural and religious dogmas. For a more complete cluster pepper some external influences ( from corporate slogans, companies recruitment to plain war) and it will add extra navigational skills.
And immigration in several ( xenophobic by tribal legislation design) countries.
Since the tech bros and the savage streaming I'm not sure I can advice myself, even less guide someone else ( my kids).
It's back to the blind leading blind allegory, painted by one of the Bruegel's ( Elder or not).
I would be a lousy elder guide, but there's satisfying discovering my blindspots, biases, blindsided skewness, prejudices and making up my own explanatory narratives as a coping mechanisms.
Because I don't know yet what I don't know. I know is increasingly vast only.
